Vertical forest by Stefano Boeri

"Vertical forest" - a project of an Italian architect Stefano Boeri, whose main goal is to increase the efficiency of using land in the center of Milan.
It was the idea of  designer Michel Brunello, his team was engaged in the planting of trees in Milan several years ago.

The 27-floor building called "Bosco Verticale" can serve as a hectare of  forest. According to the project,  two 76-meter skyscrapers completely covered with vegetation are to be built: it is planning to plant a 900 trees, 5 000 shrubs and 11 000 of various plants in each building.

The project was created together with botanists, who specially selected plants and placed them at the correct height on the right side of the buildings. A special attention was paid to security: the trees will not be pulled out by a strong wind, all plants have been tested in a wind tunnel, like cars.

The total living area of the building is 50 thousand square meters. Apartments with different plants and the window views will be offered  to citizens.

The construction of "Bosco Verticale" was only on 5 % more expensive than conventional skyscrapers, but it is going to bring  much more benefits, because the vertical forest is useful, environment friendly and aesthetic.
